O-11, a New Year and a New Commitment
So today was the start of a New Year (business-wise at least), and as far as New Year day 1's go it was not too bad. I have a number of positive things happening for wine events and other consumer oriented wine tastings, business seems to be getting back to normal after a two-plus year roller coaster ride, and most importantly - I have a goal and a plan to get there this year.
My goal is simple: do better, learn more, sell more this year. Sounds a bit cliche, but aren't all New Year's resolutions?? Actually, for me things are getting back to normal. My house is nearly finished with its six+ month renovations (I have more to do, but at least the contractors won't be showing up every morning). My studies are starting to wind down - just one more big push. And I am going on a wine trip this spring - more on that later.
One thing that I am taking a break from is teaching a lot of wine classes. I have decided that I need to commit my time to work and to studying, I have four exams and a paper to write over the next four months. I need the time to prepare and (hopefully) pass these tests. Once I do that I will be in a much better position to offer classes that have some credentials behind them and will allow my student to achieve some credentials of their own if desired. Look for me to be offering some new material in the fall.
I should make note of some notable wines that I recently tasted:
New Year's Eve - many thanks to Jimmy K for serving a delicious Lobster Risotto, and more importantly for serving the Louis Carillon Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Combettes, 2006, along with it. Delicious on both counts.
Also, thanks to Anand and Greg for the taste of the 1982 Dom Perignon. Lovely biscuit nose with lively acid and plenty of bubbles. Quite tasty, actually.
Other than that I am looking to get back to "normal" business, doing more writing and hopefully tasting a lot of great wines in the coming year.
