Sweet wines - yum. They do have their place which has been lost lately. I think that there are three reasons for this:
1 - sweet wines are out of fashion becasue they are perceived as being to high in calories, but since the serving sizes are smaller - they are typically not a lot different than a normal glasss of wine.
2 - after dinner drinks, adding more alcohol, is not a popular concept in the age of strick drunk driving regulations.
3 - sweet wines are not popular as the trend has been toward dry wines being higher in quality (which is of course not true).
it is unfortunate that sweet wines do not get the respect they deserve in today's wine and food world. Whenever I serve sweet wines, either in my professional or private service, my guests really enjoy them. In fact, they are surprised at how good the wine is and how much they enjoy the wine.
