Interesting article here from today's Otago Daily Times (New Zealand) regarding the state of the wine industry and the fact that the prices for grapes have been dramatically affected by the global recession. Central Otago Pinot Noir tends to always be on the premium side of value, but perhaps we will now get to enjoy some of these fabulous PNs at more everyday prices?? We'll see.
I also like the reference to updating the region's sub-appellations by 2010. This sounds like a long way off, but in reality the work that has to be done ahead of time as well as the planning that is needed for appellation changes, label updates, lawsuits and what-not will make the next 9 years fly by for this effort.
