Collest Two Wines I Drank Today:
Heidi Schrock Ruster Ausbruch, 2004 ($65/375ml) - Ausbruch is a sweet style wine made in Austria(usually) by blending late harvest wines that are affected by botrytis with late harvest wines that are not affected by botrytis. This wine was racy and intense and unlike any dessert wine I have ever had.
Followed that up with
Royal Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos, 2005 ($40/375ml) - here the distinguishing character was the extremely racy acid - I can see why these wines can age for so many years - this wine was just screaming with acid, but the was a delicious, sweet toffee and apricot flavor to compliment that acid.
Really two outstanding and completely different wines. Find them.
