Friday Rieslings

Maximin Grunhauser Herrenberg Kabinett, 2001
  • 7.5%
  • Pale straw color
  • Vanilla pod, white chocolate, allspice and lime aromatics
  • Velvety palate feel, smooth and balanced
  • Rich texture overall with some good acidity, but not ripping, lemon/lime flavors with flowery flavors
  • Mild overall attack, balanced and juicy feel through the finish - quite pleasant.

Maximin Grunhauser Abtsberg Kabinett, 2001

  • From the great 2001 vintage!
  • 7%
  • More mineral tones on the nose than the above wine, with some of what people call petrol, but to me this wine is more sea salt and fresh air - like standing in the middle of a cold stream on hot summer day
  • slightly leaner on the palate than the last wine, but big and flavorful - spices
  • quite rich feel, pears and berries, good intensity and fleshy fruit
  • longish with very rich flavors - very good

Dr. Loosen Urziger Wurzgarten Spatlese, 2005

  • I am a particular fan of Ernie's wines - I will actually be visiting him in early May 07 - see my upcoming report
  • 8%
  • Pale gold
  • Big nose with loads of sea salt and spices - quite "clean" aromatics - limes
  • Very big and rich on the palate
  • loads of fruit with peaches and strawberries, flowers and a bit of light honey (but not late harvest honey - flowers)
  • long finish, very easy and pleasant
  • juicy - not too heavy on the acidity, though

Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt Graach Josephshofer (Monopole) Kabinett, 2005

  • 9%
  • Pale straw/green color
  • Alpsice and apricots on the nose with minerals
  • Rich palate feel with some acidity and lycee flavors
  • mildly sweet flavors balanced by good acidity - the sweetness comes later followed by loads of fruit flavors
  • dances on your palate - just a touch cloying, but fresh
  • mineral flavors dominate the lengthy finish
  • very good
